The Montreal Impact can take hope ahead of Wednesday night's CONCACAF Champions League first leg in Mexico City against Club América (9 pm ET, FOX Sports 2).
While the Impact enjoyed another bye week after rescheduling their home opener to September, defending Liga MX champions Club América dropped a 4-0 result at home against visiting Querétaro in the 2015 Clausura. It was their second 4-0 loss in league play in the last three weeks after the Aguilas were also defeated 4-0 by Veracruz on March 20.
On Saturday the Estadio Azteca crowd was left in shock as Querétaro entered halftime up 2-0 on goals by Yasser Corona (24th minute) and Orbelín Pineda (45th minute). Then the América faithful were treated to a second-half show by Querétaro's Ronaldinho, who got the final two goals for the visitors in the 86th and 92nd minutes.
América played nine of the 11 starters who beat Herediano 6-0 in the CONCACAF Champions League semifinal second leg. And there was more good news for Montreal supporters: Mexican national team striker Oribe Peralta and goalkeeper Moises Munoz missed the game due to injury.
After Saturday night's result, Club América sit in fifth place in the Liga MX standings with 22 points (6-4-4 record), while Querétaro rise to seventh place (6-6-2).
If the pressure of a first-leg CONCACAF Champions League home game wasn't enough, Club América are also facing a heated SuperClasico match against league leaders Chivas Guadalajara on April 26.
