Champions League: Sold-out crowd expected at Estadio Azteca for Montreal Impact-América first leg

Sold-out crowd expected at Estadio Azteca for first leg of CCL final

Club America's Dario Benedetto celebrates a CCL goal vs. Herediano

What was already a tough task may have become an absolutely daunting one for the Montreal Impact.

Mexican outlet Record reported Monday that the Impact's CONCACAF Champions League final first leg against Club América has sold out, meaning that approximately 105,000 fans will pack into the famed Estadio Azteca on Wednesday night in Mexico City. That figure will smash the Champions League attendance record the Liga MX side set earlier this month when 66,208 supporters turned out for Club América's semifinal clash with Herediano.

Montreal have been playing in front of big crowds in their run to the tournament final -- drawing 33,675 and 38,104 fans in their last two home games in the competition -- but Wednesday will provide them with a larger and much more intimidating experience that not many other clubs in the world can provide.

The Impact are looking to become the first MLS team to win the CONCACAF Champions League. They host the second leg at Olympic Stadium on April 29, and nearly 60,000 tickets have already been sold for that decisive fixture.
