Chicago Fire FC have acquired Colombian youth international defender Carlos Teran from Colombian club Envigado FC, Chicago announced Friday. Additionally, the club moved goalkeeper Kenneth Kronholm and midfielder Luka Stojanovic to the season-ending injury list which opened roster spots.

Teran, a 19-year-old defender comfortable at both center back and right back, made 17 appearances (16 starts) in Colombia’s top-flight from 2019-20 and was part of Colombia's squad at the U-20 World Cup last May. He has also been involved with the U-23 side.

“Carlos is a promising young player who can play as a center back and as a right full-back,” sporting director Georg Heitz said in a club statement. “Colombia has produced many talented players and we are excited to sign one of its rising youth national team defenders. We are looking forward to working with him as we believe that he will fit in very well with our current group of players.”

Teran adds to the club's ranks in defense, joining the likes of Francisco Calvo, Mauricio Pineda, Johan Kappelhof as options in central defense. At right back, he adds to the depth chart around Boris Sekulic and more.

In a corresponding move, Stojanovic's debut season in Chicago ends before it had a chance to get started. He arrived just before the league was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was able to play just 60 minutes at the MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando before picking up an injury. The 26-year-old Serbian attacking midfielder now shifts his focus to making his mark in 2021.
