In the wake of his succesful introduction to Major League Soccer this fall, Montreal Impact forward Didier Drogba believes that MLS presents more of a challenge than the English Premier League.
In an interview with Reuters, the longtime Chelsea FC star discussed the differences between MLS and the EPL that make the North American league more difficult.
"It's a different challenge (in the U.S.)," Drogba told Reuters. "People think it's easy to play there. Believe me, it's more difficult than playing in the Premier League because of the travel."
The travel has always been a unique aspect of MLS compared to most European leagues, where a one-hour flight is often the longest journey teams need to make in domestic play. In MLS, many clubs must undertake coast-to-coast flights and cross three zones.
Drogba also commented on MLS' future -- "I think it's going to be one of the most important and decisive leagues in the world in a few years" -- and the quality of players in the league.
Meanwhile, he also had a few choice words for his former club Chelsea, who have struggled since the start of the Premier League season.
“I don’t like to say things like ‘When I was there...’ but there are some facts that you can’t hide," Drogba said, according to English tabloid The Mirror.
Chelsea, the defending champions, are currently in 15th place in the EPL table.
