"Enough is enough": Vancouver, Toronto stand together against systemic racism

Enough is enough - Vancouver Whitecaps, Toronto FC - September 5, 2020

The Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto FC joined together at midfield to make a statement against racial inequality prior to their Week 10 match at BC Place.

Both lineups gathered around a banner bearing the words "Enough is enough," arms around each other's shoulders. As both teams stood behind the banner, the stadium public address announcer read a statement.

"Together, Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Toronto FC stand against systemic racism. We must speak up and take action against racial discrimination. Together, we can be a force for positive change," the announcer said.

Then the starters from both teams knelt down on the pitch, with Vancouver midfielder Leonard Owusu raising a fist.

The two teams collaborated on the idea for the banner and its message, as well as how to present it, according to the Whitecaps.
