Exports: Weah returns for Lille, McKennie features for Juventus

Tim Weah - US Under-20s - Close up

With the November international window looming, MLS and US men's national team exports alike featured in matches across Europe on Sunday. Here are some of the most notable contributions.

Italy

Weston McKennie subbed on in the 77th minute of Juventus’ 1-1 draw with Lazio, marking the USMNT midfielder’s fourth straight appearance since recovering from COVID-19. McKennie, who developed in the FC Dallas academy before heading overseas, is on loan at the Serie A giants from FC Schalke 04.

Germany

USMNT center back John Anthony Brooks went 90 minutes in a dramatic 2-1 win for VfL Wolfsburg over TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. The 27-year-old defender has now started each Bundesliga game this season, proving vital for Wolfsburg over the last few campaigns.

England

Ahead of his first USMNT camp, Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Owen Otasowie was an unused substitute in their 1-0 win over Leicester City. Otasowie, 19, is still awaiting his Premier League debut, though has twice featured in EFL Trophy games this season.

USMNT goalkeeper Zack Steffen was on the bench for Manchester City’s marquee Premier League game against Liverpool. The former Columbus Crew SC standout continues to backup Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson, though has played in two Carabao Cup matches.

Sweden

Aron Johannsson continued his red-hot form for Allsvenskan side Hammarby IF, moving to 11 goals in 21 league games after their 5-2 loss against Varbergs BoIS FC on Sunday. Johannsson scored a penalty kick in first-half stoppage time.

France

Lille OSC dropped a 3-2 decision against Stade Brestois 29, with USMNT forward Timothy Weah coming off the bench in the 76th minute, marking his first Ligue 1 appearance since Oct. 4. As for Canada national team forward Jonathan David, he entered as a 66th-minute substitute and still has goalscoring troubles since arriving from Gent.

Portugal

Boavista FC suffered a 3-1 setback against S.C. Farense, all after knocking off Primeira Liga powerhouse side Benfica one week prior. It was a tough day for former FC Dallas right back Reggie Cannon and former Houston Dynamo forward Alberth Elis, who both played 90 minutes. However, there's a silver lining for Cannon before he heads to USMNT camp:

Belgium

Before joining the USMNT, goalkeeper Ethan Horvath backed up Simon Mignolet in Club Brugge’s 3-1 win over K.V. Oostende. He’s featured in just two games this season, including once in the UEFA Champions League.

USMNT center back Matt Miazga started in Anderlecht’s game against Gent. Since joining the Belgian Pro League side on loan from Chelsea, Miazga has offered a constant presence in the XI. Their team also includes former New York Red Bulls outside backs Kemar Lawrence and Michael Murillo.
