FC Dallas 0, Nashville SC 1 | 2020 MLS Match Recap

Late Accam winner gives Nashville first MLS victory

Dave Romney, Franco Jara - FC Dallas v Nashville SC

David Accam came off the bench to score in the 86th minute and send Nashville SC to their first-ever MLS victory with a 1-0 win over FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium on Wednesday.

It was the league's first match back in regular season play following the conclusion of the MLS is Back Tournament, and the first competitive match for FC Dallas and Nashville since March after each team had to withdraw prior to the start of the tournament due to positive COVID-19 test results.

Both sides found good chances hard to come by for most of the match, and it looked like it was headed to end in a scoreless deadlock, until Accam found the winner just minutes from full time. The veteran midfielder saw his shot take a deflection and make its way past FC Dallas goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer and into the net.

FC Dallas pressed frantically for a late equalizer, but Nashville, with the help of an incredible block from Walker Zimmerman, managed to ward off the pressure and see out the 1-0 victory, giving them their first three points as an MLS club.

It was the first of two consecutive matches between the clubs, with the second set for Sunday again at Toyota Stadium (8:30 pm ET | MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in US; TSN in Canada).

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: It wasn't the prettiest victory you'll ever see, but Nashville SC won't be questioning it in the slightest. It's a huge moment in the club's history and gives the expansion side some positive vibes as they look ahead to the rest of the season.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: There's really only one option here:
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Accam's winner gave this match a badly needed goal and a moment that will go down in Nashville lore, making him the easy choice for this one.
