Chris Richards - Bayern Munich debut

FC Dallas academy product and US U-23 national teamer Chris Richards made his Bayern Munich first-team debut Saturday, subbing on in the 84th minute of the club's 3-1 win over SC Freiburg.

Richards, a center back, replaced Javi Martinez for the Bundesliga champions after making 27 appearances this season with Bayern’s reserves. The 20-year-old was a key player at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup as the US made the quarterfinals.

Originally from Alabama, Richards signed a Homegrown Player contract with FC Dallas in April 2018. He was eventually transferred to Bayern in January 2019, with the German powerhouse side also home to Vancouver Whitecaps export Alphonso Davies.

It was only a six-minute appearance (plus stoppage time) from Richards, but it’s an encouraging sign nonetheless. He previously made Bayern's matchday roster for a 1-0 win over Werder Bremen last Tuesday.
