TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Real Salt Lake are in contract talks with former Italy international forward Giuseppe Rossi after the player arrived with the club on Monday night to join training on Wednesday, sources confirm to MLSsoccer.com. The Athletic's Sam Stejskal first reported the news.
The forward will continue to train with the club as the sides discuss a potential deal.
Born in New Jersey, Rossi has long been linked with a move to MLS as he battled injuries for the last few years. Rossi last made double-digit appearances in 2016-17 with Celta Vigo in La Liga and has been without a club since the summer of 2018. He made 29 appearances with the Italy national team.
He enjoyed his best seasons in La Liga, scoring double-digit league goals in four straight seasons from 2007-11 with Villarreal. He also impressed in Serie A with Fiorentina.
Rossi would potentially join a deep group of attackers at Real Salt Lake, with the likes of Albert Rusnak, Sam Johnson, Corey Baird and others. Designated Player Jefferson Savarino is reported to be nearing a transfer to Brazil.
