TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing

Former LA Galaxy academy standout Haji Wright has signed with SonderjyskE Fodbold in the Danish Superliga, the club announced Sunday.

The 22-year-old Wright, who has risen up the ladder in the US youth national team setup, arrives from Eredivisie side VVV-Venlo where he scored once in 23 appearances. He signed a two-year deal with a club option for a third year.

SonderjyskE are the reigning Danish Cup champions.

“We get a player who has some size, and in that way he is a different striker than those we already have,” SonderjyskE manager Hans Jørgen Haysen said in a statement. “He will take up the competition with Peter Christiansen and Anders K. Jacobsen, but he also gives us some other strings to be able to play on by virtue of his physique and height, which has been important in the profile. We look forward to building on him and developing him further in our setup.”

Wright has also completed for SV Sandhausen in 2.Bundesliga, FC Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga, where he scored once in seven appearances, and the New York Cosmos, where he played under current Portland Timbers coach Giovanni Savarese.

“Even though I am only 22 years old, I have played for many years in Europe. Among other things in the Bundesliga and the Eredivisie, I have learned a lot from that, and I want to take all my experiences with me to my time in SønderjyskE,” said Wright, who is slated to begin training with his new club Monday. “I have many goals with my stay in SønderjyskE. First of all, we have to win a lot of matches, but I also want to win some trophies with the club. In addition, I will score a lot of goals so I can help the team [achieve] that.”
