Houston and Dallas share points in Texas derby

The Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas played to a scoreless draw Friday night at BBVA Stadium in the Dynamo's first game since the MLS is Back tournament.

Houston (0W-2L-4D) remained one of three winless teams in MLS despite largely outplaying the visiting Texas Derby rivals, who were playing their third match in 10 days. The Dynamo held FC Dallas without a shot in the first half and outshot their rivals 17-7 for the game.

FC Dallas (1-1-3) improved their attack in the second half, but haven't scored a goal in a counting match in three straight. Goalkeeper Jimmy Mauer made six saves, including a block of Christian Ramirez's shot at close range in the 27th minute, to give his side a chance for three points.

The Dynamo, who were without key players Mauro Manotas and Boniek Garcia Friday, hadn't played a match since a 1-1 draw with the LA Galaxy on July 23 near Orlando. Memo Rodriguez led Houston with seven shots.

Goals

None.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: The Dynamo are still trying to get coach Tab Ramos his first win. They had their best chances in the first half and were the better team overall on the night, which is a good sign since it came in their first match in almost a month. But finishing chances remains an issue. For FC Dallas, three games without a goal is a problem, and only one shot on target is the glaring stat of the night.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: A second half shot from Jesus Ferreira trickled just wide of the net, in what was one of few quality chances for the visiting side. FC Dallas was close to its first goal in a regular season match since March.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: A tip of the cap to FC Dallas defender Matt Hedges, the one-time MLS Defender of the Year who passed Jason Kreis for the franchise record in career appearances with his 248th on Friday. Hedges has been with FC Dallas since being drafted in 2012.
