It's official: Giovinco, Pirlo called up for Italy

The early reports are true. Italian men's national team coach Antonio Conte has called up two current MLS players, Toronto FC's Sebastian Giovinco and New York City FC's Andrea Pirlo.


Conte named both players to his 28-man squad for an upcoming pair of UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying matches. The first finds the Azzurri facing Malta in Florence on September 3, the second facing Bulgaria in Palermo on September 6.


Giovinco debuted with the Italian national team in 2011, earning 21 total caps and one goal for them since then. Pirlo, meanwhile, has represented Italy since 2002, notching 115 appearances and 13 goals in his international career.
