Minnesota United's Kevin Molino wins MLS Player of the Week for Week 24

Molino takes POTW after Decision Day brace

Kevin Molino - Minnesota United - September 9, 2020

After leading his team to a big 3-0 victory with a brace and an assist against FC Dallas on Decision Day presented by AT&T, Minnesota United standout Kevin Molino is taking home MLS Player of the Week honors for Week 24.

The 30-year-old was the catalyst on a dominant day for the Loons, scoring the opener early in the first half before adding his team's final goal of the match in the 79th minute.

Molino got the scoring started for Minnesota in the 17th minute after teammate Robin Lod picked off an errant back pass and dished off to Emanuel Reynoso, who found Molino charging into the box to set up a first-time finish. That trio wound up combining for all three of Minnesota's goals for the game.

After picking up the secondary assist on another Lod-to-Reynoso goal that pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 47th minute, Molino put the contest to bed with the dagger in the 79th. It was the trifecta of Lod, Reynoso and Molino striking again, as Lod broke free down the right side and found Reynoso open in the penalty box before the Argentine playmaker dished to Molino, who made no mistake with the finish.

The brace brings Molino up to nine goals and four assists on the season 1,264 minutes. He'll look to keep it rolling in the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs, where Minnesota are the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference and have a Round One matchup with the Colorado Rapids.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
