MLS Power Rankings, Week 13: Portland Timbers surge up the rankings after two-win week

Best defense in the league, best goal differential in the league, best points per game in the league, and no real arguments that somebody else should be No. 1 in these rankings.

• Last Week: Won vs. Colorado, 1-0; Won vs. New York, 2-1

Last: 3

Last four games were all against playoff teams. Two wins, two draws, only three goals conceded, all while juggling the backline and going the last 180 minutes without Dom Dwyer.

Last: 5

Still on top of the East, and by a decent margin in both points and points per game. It hasn't been pretty for D.C., but they're experts at staying afloat even without key contributors.

In their last 10 games they're 3-4-3, and every time it looks like it's about to come together... it doesn't. Dallas gave themselves a nice cushion out of the gate, but have been mediocre ever since.

Last: 4

Now winless in five and missing key pieces to both injury and international call-up. The Revs can still put together devastating stretches of soccer, but those moments are becoming fewer and further between.

Crossed the country without Robbie Keane to get a point on turf, and have pulled out of an early-May downward spiral. The next step is finding some bubble wrap in which to encase Jose Villarreal.

Chemistry continues to be an issue, but they still found a way – as is their habit against teams that reside below The Red Line.

The Power Rankings Politburo warned you that this team would wake up and start raining hell down upon defenders. Bradley & Giovinco are getting the headlines, but just as crucial has been the development of young defenders Ashtone Morgan and Eriq Zavaleta.

One win in seven basically tells the story. Yeah, they've played some pretty ball at times, but their final-third difference makers aren't consistently making a difference.

So much firepower, but so many errors from the backline and goalkeeper Steve Clark, who's firmly entrenched in "trying to do too much" mode right now.

Missed the hell out of Fatai Alashe as they were overrun in central midfield. San Jose have toughed out results over the past three months, but still often look like a team in need of serious retooling.

It wasn't pretty, but six points is always effective. Now they're on the verge of their first-ever three-game winning streak as an MLS team

Left the door open in the Bronx and nearly surrendered all three points. At the same time, they haven't conceded more than a single goal in a game since May 1. So something's still working.

Having the troubles expected of an expansion team, with just one win in their last seven outings. On a positive note: the early-season offensive struggles are truly gone.

Just 2-5-3 in their last 10. Getting Javier Morales and Joao Plata back into the lineup will help, but the real problem remains the central defense.

Looked like the better team even before the red card, and Kennedy Igboananike's movement is opening up tons of space for the rest of the attackers. Huge week ahead with two intra-conference games.
