Saturday's regular season match between Sporting Kansas City and the Colorado Rapids, postponed prior to kickoff due to inclement weather, was rescheduled by Major League Soccer on Tuesday and will be played at 8:30 pm ET on October 21 at Sporting Park.
The match, originally scheduled to kick off at 7:30pm local time, was delayed for nearly an hour and a half due to heavy rain and lightning, before the postponement was officially announced just before 9pm local time.
Saturday's match was only the second time a Sporting match had to be rescheduled as a result of unplayable conditions. In 1998, a match between the then Kansas City Wizards and D.C. United at Arrowhead Stadium was suspended in the 53rd minute and replayed in its entirety more than a month later. The Rapids' last match to be postponed was their home opener back in 2013 againt the Philadelphia Union.
SKC are set to play twice this week. First, they will face the New England Revolution Wednesday night (8 pm ET, ESPN2/ESPN Deportes/WatchESPN), before heading to Seattle to take on the Sounders on Saturday night (10 pm ET, MLS LIVE). The Rapids will play the Vancouver Whitecaps at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday night (9 pm ET, TSN2/MLS LIVE).
