MONTREAL IMPACT vs. TORONTO FC
Stade Saputo, Montreal
October 25, 2015 (WEEK 34, MLS Game #334)
5 p.m. ET (TSN2, RDS, MLS LIVE)
The third meeting between Canadian arch-rivals Montréal Impact and Toronto FC will have a huge impact on the Eastern Conference playoff picture when the clubs meet Sunday as part of Decision Day at Stade Saputo. Both teams are assured of berths in the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs, but both can finish anywhere from second place to sixth place following the final day, meaning they could go from having a first-round bye to traveling to a Knockout Round match. TFC are coming off a 2-0 home loss to Columbus Crew SC last weekend at BMO Field, while the Impact booked their place in the postseason in a 1-0 win at the New England Revolution.
- Ignacio Piatti scored a stunning goal for the game’s lone tally as the Impact defeated the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium – securing their berth in the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs with a second consecutive win and their fifth in the last seven games.
- Toronto FC had their four-game winning streak put to an end in a 2-0 defeat by Columbus Crew SC on Saturday afternoon at BMO Field. TFC has already qualified for the postseason for the first time in club history.
- The teams are meeting for the third time this season in league play, and Toronto FC have won the first two. On June 24 at BMO Field, TFC Designated Players Sebastian Giovinco and Michael Bradley each netted a goal and added an assist in their club’s 3-1 win. Then on Aug. 29, Designated Players Jozy Altidore and Bradley each scored in TFC’s 2-1 win in Toronto.
- Since coming to MLS, the Impact have not won in Toronto, with six losses and four draws in 10 meetings in all competitions at BMO Field. The Impact have yet to defeat Toronto FC in a league game at Stade Saputo, losing both regular season meetings there (though they have won three of four matchups in the Canadian Championship). The two Impact home wins in the all-time league series have come at Olympic Stadium.
