New York City FC will open the entirety of Yankee Stadium due to the high demand for tickets to their match June 28 against New York Red Bulls (5 pm ET; ESPN2), the club announced Friday.

Yankee Stadium, as configured for NYCFC matches, typically holds just more than 27,500, but with more than 30,000 tickets already sold for the match the entire stadium will be opened for the match against their crosstown rivals.

“Demand for tickets to this game has been amazing,” NYCFC president Tom Glick said in a team statement. “This is clearly an important match for our supporters, with our regular capacity being sold out more than a month before the game.  Just like the home opener in March, New Yorkers clearly want to be part of this landmark moment for their club and we are giving them every opportunity to come and support their team. Yankee Stadium will be the place to be on June 28.”

It will be the second of three matches between the New York clubs, the first a 2-1 Red Bulls victory on May 10 at Red Bull Arena.
