A crucial match in the Eastern Conference postseason chase is ahead on Saturday afternoon when New York City FC play host to the Montreal Impact at Yankee Stadium. The teams come into the match locked in a tie on 24 points, two of three clubs tied for the final playoff position in the East. NYCFC are coming off a wild 5-3 win against expansion sidekicks Orlando City last weekend at Yankee Stadium, while the Impact hit the road after a second consecutive home win in a 1-0 victory against the Seattle Sounders last Saturday at Stade Saputo.

  • David Villa scored two goals in a game for the third time this season as NYCFC ended a two-game winless run with a club-record five-goal outburst in their 5-3 win against Orlando City. Villa is now third in the MLS Golden Boot standings with 12 goals.
  • The Impact won their second consecutive game at home, Laurent Ciman providing the game’s only goal in a 1-0 win against the Seattle Sounders last weekend at Stade Saputo.
  • The teams are meeting for the third time this season, and NYCFC have won both previous meetings. David Villa, Mix Diskerud and Kwadwo Poku all scored as NYCFC took a 3-1 victory, June 13 at Yankee Stadium.
