When the video emerged on social media late Monday night, it came as a surprise to NYCFC supporters and the MLS world.

A post by a Saudi Arabian media member suggested that NYCFC Designated Player Alexandru Mitrita could be on his way to Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia.

NYCFC happened to announce earlier that same day that Mitrita was permitted to join the Romanian national team because he was also taking care of a personal matter. Other NYCFC players called up to their respective national teams for the October FIFA fixtures were not released due to quarantine restrictions following conversations with their federations.

On Tuesday morning, NYCFC head coach Ronny Deila shed some light on the situation, confirming talks were taking place:

The Athletic'sSam Stejskal later reported on a potential loan deal between the two clubs:

Mitrita joined NYCFC in February 2019 from Romanian side Universitatea Craiova for a reported $9 million transfer fee. The talented Romanian national team player, who typically plays wide left in an attacking front three for NYCFC, has four goals and two assists this year, with his four goals all coming in the last two matches against Inter Miami and FC Cincinnati. Last year he had 12 goals and added three assists.
