Orlando City SC have acquired winger Alexander Alvarado on a short-term loan from Ecuadorian side S.D. Aucas with a permanent transfer option for after the 2020 season, the club announced Tuesday.

Alvarado will join Orlando after the receipt of his ITC, P-1 visa and completion of any mandatory quarantine periods under local government and MLS health and safety protocols.

“Alexander possesses a great amount of versatility, able to play on the left, on the right or at the center,” Orlando City EVP of soccer operations Luiz Muzzi said in a statement. “We’re excited to welcome another young, dynamic addition to our team and think he has a bright future ahead of him. We look forward to seeing what he can add to our already competitive roster.”

Alvarado has made two appearances for Ecuador’s national team, debuting in a September 2019 friendly against Bolivia. He also represented his home country at the 2019 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Poland, adding one goal and one assist en route to a 3rd-place finish.

Since signing for Aucas in the 2018 season, Alvarado has netted six goals and 14 assists across 88 appearances. His professional career began in 2015 with Deportivo Quito, another Ecuadorian club.

While playing at last year's Under-20 World Cup, Alvarado was teammates with LAFC left back Diego Palacios and LAFC midfielder Jose Cifuentes
