Goal of the Week

Philadelphia Union's Mark McKenzie edges Caden Clark of the New York Red Bulls for AT&T Goal of the Week

On the Mark: McKenzie edges Clark for Goal of the Week

In what is one of the closest votes in AT&T Goal of the Week history, one late equalizing golazo by an Eastern Conference squad edged another.

Central defender Mark McKenzie’s stunning blast from distance three minutes from time that secured a 2-2 draw for the Philadelphia Union against D.C. United and clinched a playoff berth, was voted the Week 18 winner by the fans, claiming 34.82 percent of the vote.

That’s mere tenths of a percentage point ahead of Caden Clark’s second goal for the New York Red Bulls in a 1-1 draw with Toronto FC. The 17-year-old, who became the youngest player in league history to score in his first two MLS games, fired into the side netting from 26 yards out in the 77th minute.

Clark, who finished third in the voting for his first MLS goal in Week 17, was a close second with 34.63 percent of the vote.

Nashville’s Hany Mukhtar garnered 14.71 percent of the voting to take third for a sensational free kick in a 3-1 win over the Houston Dynamo. Damir Kreilach’s volley in the box off a Pablo Ruiz free kick in RSL’s 2-1 win over the Portland Timbers was a close fourth with 12.81 percent and Brek Shea finished fifth with 3.04 percent for a first-time back post finish that gave Inter Miami CF a temporary lead over Atlanta United.
