The Portland Timbers and New England Revolution meet for the only time this season in a crucial match for both clubs in their respective conference position when they face off at Providence Park on Saturday evening. The Timbers are on 19 points for the season – but sit in sixth place in the Western Conference, after a second consecutive win in a late 2-1 triumph at the Colorado Rapids last weekend. The Revolution have 21 points this season but are in second place in the Eastern Conference, coming off a second draw in a row in a 2-2 result with the LA Galaxy last Sunday in Foxborough.

  • The Timbers have won back-to-back games for the first time this season, grabbing a late game-winner on a Jack Jewsbury goal for a 2-1 win against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday evening at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
  • The Revolution saw their current winless streak extended to six games – with their fifth draw over that time – ending in a 2-2 result with the LA Galaxy on Sunday evening at Gillette Stadium.
  • The teams have evenly split their five meetings lifetime, each with one victory, with three matches drawn. Each of the last two meetings have ended in draws, a 1-1 result last Aug. 16 at Gillette Stadium, and a scoreless contest the year previous in Portland.
  • The lone Timbers victory in the series came in 2011 at Providence Park; the lone Revolution triumph came in 2012 in Foxborough.
