The Portland Timbers are close to signing Argentine left back Claudio Nicolas Bravo from Banfield, according to a report from journalist Leonel Cerrudo.

Bravo, 23, would reportedly join in January and the deal could be for upwards of 75% of the player’s rights.

Bravo has appeared in eight matches for Argentina’s U-23 national team and made his debut for Banfield during the 2017-18 season. Ever since, he’s recorded three assists for the Argentine Primera Division side.

Should Bravo join Portland, he’d be the club’s latest Argentine signing. They have veterans Diego Valeri and Sebastian Blanco in key roles, while 22-year-old midfielder Tomas Conechny has been hot and cold since joining MLS in 2018.

Banfield has sent players to MLS in recent years, namely with Atlanta United midfielder Eric Remedi and Inter Miami CF forward Julian Carranza. They both featured for the Argentine club before being scouted and signed.
