Kenny Cooper is on the move again.
The Seattle Sounders announced on Thursday that the veteran forward has been waived, and it appears he has a suitor already getting in line for his services.
Montreal Impact head coach Frank Klopas said he has interest in Cooper, who is eligible for the Waiver Draft, when asked about reports that the Baltimore-born 30-year-old would be acquired via a trade.
“We have an interest," Klopas told media on Wednesday. "We need forward depth. He knows the league. He’s played overseas. He’s got international experience. He’s someone that, immediately, can come in and have an impact, because he knows the league well.”
Now in his ninth year in MLS, Cooper has scored 75 goals in 210 league games. He bagged 11 goals his rookie year with FC Dallas in 2006, and 18 in a breakout 2008 campaign.
He left Dallas in 2009 for a transfer to 1860 Munich and returned to MLS when then-expansion side Portland Timbers signed him ahead of their inaugural 2011 season.
He scored eight goals in just one season in Portland before a bounce-back year with the New York Red Bulls in 2012 in which he recorded 18 goals.
He returned to FC Dallas in 2013 before moving to Seattle in 2014, where he’s served mostly as a reserve.
