Source: FC Dallas have received offer from Barnsley for Reggie Cannon

Reggie Cannon - FC Dallas - back turned

FC Dallas are considering an offer from English Championship club Barnsley for right back Reggie Cannon, a source told MLSsoccer.com. The offer is still on the table amid widespread European interest in Cannon.

In doing their due diligence prior to the offer, Barnsley are confident Cannon would receive a work permit to be eligible for the club's roster. Cannon recently turned 22 this summer, which changed the threshold for receiving an automatic work permit due to his national team service. He would have needed to appear in 75% of the USMNT's senior competitive international matches where he was available for selection during the two years preceding the date of the application, per the United Kingdom's Immigration and Visa services. The right back has made 11 appearances with the US national team since earning his first cap in October 2018.

Cannon has made 65 appearances for the Dallas first team since signing a Homegrown contract ahead of the 2017 season. He has been a constant at right back, appearing in no fewer than 28 matches in 2018 and 2019. He's started all three matches for the club in 2020.

Barnsley narrowly avoided relegation from the English Championship last season. The club's CEO is American Dane Murphy, a former midfielder with D.C. United and New York Cosmos.
