Sources: FC Dallas and Portugal's Boavista have deal in place for Reggie Cannon

Bogert: Cannon departs Dallas, traveling to Portugal for medical evaluation

UPDATE, Sept. 7: Sources have told MLSsoccer.com that Reggie Cannon has departed Dallas and is headed to Portugal to undergo his medical and physical evaluation. Assuming he clears that final hurdle, his transfer to Boavista should be completed.

FC Dallas and Portuguese club Boavista FC have a deal in place over the transfer of Reggie Cannon, sources tell MLSsoccer.com. The deal is not yet finalized.

Cannon, 22, has made 67 appearances for the Dallas first team since signing a Homegrown contract ahead of the 2017 season. He has been a constant at right back, appearing in no fewer than 28 matches in 2018 and 2019. He's started all of the club's five matches in 2020.

The right back has made 11 appearances with the US men's national team since earning his first cap in October 2018.

Reggie Cannon 2019 highlights

Boavista finished 12th last season in the Portuguese top flight. They recently acquired English youth international Angel Gomes on loan from Lille, a rising talent at Manchester United before signing with Lille. The Lille connection is an interesting plot to follow with Boavista as Lille's owner, Gerard Lopez, is in advanced discussions to acquire majority ownership of Boavista. Lille have had a recent success rate of developing young players and selling them on, most recently with forward Victor Osimhen, who just made a big-money move to Napoli.

Lille is also home to USMNT forward Tim Weah and Canadian attacker Jonathan David.

MLSsoccer.com previously reported that English club Barnsley submitted an offer for Cannon. Dallas-based website 3rd Degree reported of interest in Cannon, as well as that he is heading out of Dallas.

FCD head coach Luchi Gonzalez didn't comment on Cannon when asked on a virtual press conference on Friday:

"I can’t comment on anything official on whether or not he (Reggie) is available for tomorrow," Gonzalez told reporters about Cannon's status for their match Saturday.
