Sporting Kansas City announced on Wednesday that they have mutually agreed to part ways with goalkeeper Luis Marin just months after he joined the club.
The 32-year-old will return to his native Chile due to personal considerations.
Acquired in December, Marin was billed as the replacement for Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen, who retired following the 2013 season after helping Sporting to that year's MLS Cup title.

The former Chilean international started Kansas City’s first eight matches but has not featured since allowing four goals in the club’s draw at Houston on April 25. Tim Melia has started the last four games, winning two, drawing two and posting a 0.75 goals-against-average. Marin ends his Sporting career with a 2-2-4 record and 1.50 GAA.
To replace Marin in the gameday roster, Sporting have recalled Homegrown goalkeeper Jon Kempin from his loan to the NASL’s San Antonio Scorpions. The 22-year-old Kempin, who played four MLS games for Kansas City last year and had started two games while in San Antonio, will be activated pending league approval.
Wednesday’s transaction will open up a senior roster spot and an international roster spot for Kansas City ahead of the summer transfer window, which opens on July 8.
