Van der Vaart, an accomplished Dutch international who has played for European giants like Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur, was a popular topic among Sporting KC faithful on Sunday after Hamburg expert Daniel Busch tweeted the following:
Except it only confirmed what Sporting KC CEO and part-owner Robb Heineman tweeted on Thursday.
In fact, back on February 11, Heineman made it clear that RVDV is "definitely on the radar" of the club, making the weekend developments totally unsurprising.
Van der Vaart came off the bench for the final 11 minutes of his team's Saturday league loss at Eintracht Frankfurt. Hamburg continue to be mired in a relegation battle and sit fourth from the bottom.
