USL: Portland Timbers 2 exact revenge on Vancouver Whitecaps 2 in latest Cascadia clash

USL: Timbers 2 get payback on Whitecaps 2 in Cascadia clash

Robert Earnshaw in action for Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2

A little more than a week after allowing the Vancouver Whitecaps 2 to flip the script and come out on top, the Portland Timbers 2 made sure not to have a repeat performance.

Cascadia again took center stage in USL, as Vancouver and Portland squared off on Sunday in an entertaining six-goal affair. Unlike the match on July 10 in Vancouver in which the Whitecaps triumphed via a 2-1 scoreline, the Timbers 2 grabbed a 4-2 victory at home.

The game went back and forth, with Vancouver scoring early through Robert Earnshaw before Portland rattled off three in a row to take a comfortable lead. The Canadian club pulled one back in the 78th minute to make things interesting late, but Timbers 2 put the game out of reach for good three minutes from the final whistle. Some of other MLS-owned teams in action included the New York Red Bulls II and LA Galaxy II. New York came out on top of their Saturday match, going on the road and blanking the Harrisburg City Islanders, 2-0, off of goals from MLS rookie Leo Stolz and Dan Bedoya. Red Bulls first-team reserve goalkeeper Santiago Castano recorded the shutout. (RED BULLS RECAP)

Los Dos, meanwhile, settled for a 1-1 home draw with fellow California club Orange County Blues FC. LA initially fell behind, but Ariel Lassiter found an equalizer late in the first half to help Galaxy II avoid losing. (GALAXY RECAP)

FC Montreal and Toronto FC II also had games, and they were against the same opponent. Montreal first routed Saint Louis FC, 5-2, last Wednesday at Stade Saputo (MONTREAL RECAP), but Toronto were not able to match that, suffering a 1-0 loss at home due to an own goal. (TORONTO RECAP)
