Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the San Jose Earthquakes meet for a second time this season in a massive match for the playoff ambitions of both clubs when they face off Sunday afternoon at BC Place. Whitecaps FC are in the thick of the playoff positions in the division – just two points out of first, but one point ahead of sixth – following their 1-1 draw at the Portland Timbers. The Quakes are seven points out of the final playoff position, after a third consecutive defeat in a 5-2 loss at the LA Galaxy in the California Clasico last Friday.

  • The game's lone goal finally fell in the 75th minute. After Whitecaps FC defenders blocked shots by Cordell Cato and Shea Salinas, the rebound fell to Sanna Nyassi 15 yards from goal, and he slammed it inside the left post for the eventual match-winner.
  • The Earthquakes limited Vancouver to just five total attempts at goal, and San Jose goalkeeper David Bingham was not required to make a single save.
  • Both teams ended the match a man down after Vancouver's Pedro Morales and San Jose's Adam Jahn were each given red cards after tangling in the 86th minute.
