New York City FC (and USMNT) fans got a taste of Mix Diskerud’s world-class skill on Saturday night, when the US national team midfielder banged one home from distance in the Carolina Challenge Cup finale against the Charleston Battery.
Diskerud collected a pass just right of center and slammed a half volley home from 28 yards out to give NYCFC their final goal in a 3-0 win over the Battery.

Diskerud and his NYCFC teammates will take their first crack at MLS play on Sunday, when they open their inaugural MLS season in front of a sold-out crowd of 60,000-plus fans at fellow expansion club Orlando City SC (5 pm ET, ESPN2).
