What MLS club made the list of hipsters' favorites? | SIDELINE

Hipsters and soccer, for better or worse and however stereotypically, often go hand in hand.

Face it, soccer fans are just cooler than most.

But what soccer clubs are the hippest? We’ll save the definitive answer – or argument, rather – for the comment section below. But to get you started, you might want to check out The Guardian’s thoughts on the matter.

To no surprise – Portlandia, hello?! – Portland Timbers are the only MLS team to crack their list of the hippest clubs. Coffee, microbrews, beards (perhaps the city’s most epic belonging to one of the team’s starting center backs, Nat Borchers), flannel shirts and beanies, yes, it’s hard to argue with that, even though the Seattle Sounders might have a pretty good case.

The team’s roots trace from the old NASL through the lower divisions in the 1990s and 2000s, placating even the “I was a fan before it was cool” set.

Some of the other teams to make the list include FC St. Pauli, the quaint 2.Bundesliga club with the sweet skull and crossbones crest, and AS Livorno Calcio, a Serie B side located in a socialist stronghold in Italy that often honors Che Guevara and Fidel Castro in their stadium. Or how about Isthmian League Premier Division club Dulwich Hamlet FC, whose stadium holds just 3,000 spectators (a mere 500 of them seated)?
