Player of the Week

Toronto FC right back Richie Laryea named MLS Player of the Week for Week 14

A right back wins Player of the Week award! It's simple - he dominated

Richie Laryea - Toronto FC - July 16, 2020

When you dominate from your position like Toronto FC right back Richie Laryea did against Columbus Crew SC in Week 14, it's no surprise that the 25-year-old Canadian international came away with the latest MLS Player of the Week award.

Laryea helped Toronto to a 3-1 victory over league-leading Columbus Crew SC at Rentschler Field behind one goal and two assists. It was a career-high fourth goal for the Toronto native as TFC moved to within two points of the Supporters' Shield lead behind Columbus.

Laryea bombed forward from his right back position and was always dangerous. He contributed to Jozy Altidore’s equalizing goal, he went on a dribbling run to serve Alejandro Pozuelo on the go-ahead goal, and then he went on another mazy run to score a spectacular goal (watch it below).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
